米スニーカーメディア”COMPLEX“が、ナイキが同ブランドの王道モデル『エアフォース1』の生産数を減らす予定だと報じました。
同メディアによると、ナイキCFOを務めるマット・フレンド氏が「当社最大のライフスタイルフランチャイズの一部とパフォーマンスフランチャイズの一部を元に戻し、新商品のためのスペースを確保します(原文：We’re managing some of our largest lifestyle franchises and some of our performance franchises back to make space for the newness)」と3月の決算会見で語ったとのこと。
またフレンド氏は「ナイキは製品ポートフォリオを新しさと革新に向けて移行している最中です。前四半期、私たちは特定の主要フランチャイズの市場供給を削減し、新製品の導入と拡大を図りながら健全さと強さを維持するという意図的な行動について話しました。プロモーション環境がより強化されている中でも、ナイキ最新製品への消費者の反応を考慮して、当社は取り組みを加速することを決定しました。たとえば、エアフォース1 などの古典的なモデルの供給を停止しています。そして、ペガサス 41 の新しいイノベーションの発売に先立って、ペガサスの供給を削減しています。(原文：Third, we are in the midst of shifting our product portfolio toward newness and innovation.
